Rhodesian Ridgebacks are powerful, athletic hounds originally developed in southern Africa. They are often loyal and affectionate with their families, while their independence and size make early socialisation, patient reward-based training and secure handling important. They need regular daily exercise and mental engagement, but growing puppies should avoid forced high-impact activity until mature. Their short coat is easy to maintain with occasional brushing. Their history as hunting dogs can mean a strong instinct to chase, so introductions to smaller pets and off-lead freedom need careful management.
