About the Portuguese Water Dog
Portuguese Water Dogs are athletic, intelligent companions with a history of working alongside fishermen. They usually enjoy being active with their people and benefit from daily exercise, training and games that keep their minds engaged. Their curly or wavy coat sheds relatively little but needs regular brushing and professional trimming to prevent mats. They are often affectionate and eager to learn, though individual temperaments vary and early socialisation and consistent, reward-based training are important. A Portuguese Water Dog may suit an involved household looking for an energetic, people-focused companion and prepared for ongoing exercise, company and coat care.
