About the Mastiff

Mastiffs are enormous, good-natured dogs who are often calm and affectionate with their families. Their size calls for thoughtful training, early socialisation and enough room to move comfortably; even friendly enthusiasm can be a lot of dog. They generally need moderate daily activity rather than strenuous exercise, with gentle walks and play suited to the individual. Growing puppies should not be over-exercised. Their short coat is easy to brush, though Mastiffs can drool and their facial folds and ears need regular checks. Patient, reward-based training helps build good manners in a powerful companion. A Mastiff may suit a home ready for the practical and financial responsibilities of a giant breed, including careful handling, space and close companionship.
