About the Labrador Retriever

Labradors are the dogs that tend to want in on everything. They're famously sociable, affectionate and enthusiastic, and they're usually happiest when they're part of family life rather than left on the sidelines. A Labrador can be equally delighted by a long walk, a game of fetch, a swim, or simply stretching out beside you while you work. They're also highly trainable and generally eager to please, which makes them rewarding for first-time owners as well as experienced dog people. The catch is that their enthusiasm needs somewhere to go. Young Labs in particular can be exuberant, mouthy and surprisingly energetic, so "friendly family dog" shouldn't be confused with "effortless dog." If you enjoy being outdoors and want a dog who is likely to greet life with a wagging tail, a Labrador could be an excellent match. They thrive when exercise, companionship and training are all part of the routine.
