About the Greyhound

Greyhounds look like they should spend every waking hour sprinting. In reality, many are remarkably relaxed house dogs. They can enjoy an impressive burst of speed and then be perfectly happy finding the softest possible place to sleep. That makes them an interesting option for someone who wants a large dog but doesn't necessarily want a permanently high-energy lifestyle. They still need regular walks and opportunities to stretch their legs, but they're often far more sofa-oriented than their racing-dog reputation suggests. Their short coat is wonderfully straightforward to maintain, and many Greyhounds have gentle, quiet personalities. The important caveat is that individual dogs can have strong chase instincts, so their suitability around cats or other small animals needs to be considered carefully. If you like the idea of a big, elegant dog who can enjoy a walk with you and then happily spend the afternoon horizontal, the Greyhound is one of Poochi's more surprising matches.
