About the Beagle

Beagles are cheerful, curious and almost comically interested in whatever smells interesting. Their noses are a major part of who they are, so walks with a Beagle can become less of a march around the block and more of an investigation into every leaf, hedge and patch of grass. They're generally sociable dogs and can make wonderful family companions. Many enjoy the company of both people and other dogs, and their playful nature can fit beautifully into an active household. Their independent streak is worth understanding, though. A Beagle may know exactly what you're asking and still decide that the smell coming from behind the bush is considerably more important. Training therefore benefits from patience, rewards and consistency. They're also not always the quietest dogs, thanks to their hound heritage. If you want a dog who will happily announce interesting developments to the neighbourhood, you'll appreciate the enthusiasm. If you live somewhere with very sensitive neighbours, it's something to think about.
